Council hears police report; ALPRs installed and officer trainings scheduled

Long Prairie Police reported 230 calls from Sept. 24–Oct. 8, including 97 traffic-related incidents; the department has installed automatic license plate readers and scheduled ALPR and use-of-force (40MM) training for officers in October.
Chief of Police Ryan Hanson provided the council with an operational update noting 230 calls for service between Sept. 24 and Oct. 8, 2025 — an average of about 16.4 calls per day — including 97 traffic-related calls, 12 suspicious-activity reports and a range of ordinance-related complaints. Chief Hanson also reported several officers will attend training this month, including Background Investigation training and the Criminal Justice Mental Health Summit in St. Paul.
The department has installed automatic license plate readers (ALPRs) and scheduled training for all officers on Oct. 9 and Oct. 14 in conjunction with required 40MM training at the Todd County Range. The update also listed upcoming training for specific officers: Officer Harden will complete DARE Instructor School on Oct. 10; Officer Morazan will attend Background Investigation training Oct. 16–17.
