MEMA: new EOC move delayed to July 15; agency reports recent activations and two new hires

Deputy Administrator Peter "Kono" Davis told the Fire and Public Safety Commission that the new Maui Emergency Operations Center (EOC) at the Hawaiian Telcom building on Wells Street will not be ready in June as planned and the move is now expected July 15. He also reported recent activations: one Level 1 activation for a late storm and two Level 3 activations for a brush fire in Kīhei and a structure fire in Napili.
Davis said the agency is collaborating with large private landowners to identify evacuation routes, refuge areas and staging areas and reported two staff hires who started May 18: Nick Saladino as grant specialist 3 and a new isolated-community staff specialist assigned to Lānaʻi. The presentation was interrupted by persistent audio and video problems and the chair adjourned the meeting; Davis offered to submit his written report to the commission.
