He said the finance secretary authorized a fresh look and an engineering firm (Brockenbro) has submitted a study; the secretary plans to brief town leadership directly.
Ware told the board he opposes bills that would move local decisions about siting solar farms or approving multifamily housing from county governments to state authorities. "You all know your neighborhoods. You know your your locality," Ware said, arguing that zoning decisions belong at the local level. He said similar preemption proposals have been introduced before and that he expects new proposals in the coming session but remains hopeful they will not pass.
Ware also reviewed a separate proposal that would have allowed local referenda to add a 1% sales-tax for school construction statewide; the measure cleared the legislature with about two‑thirds support but was vetoed by the governor and not overridden. He closed with a brief overview of the state budget timetable, noting revenue remains slightly ahead of forecasts and that budget proposals will be worked on through mid-December.
