Chris Gross, the city’s DPW superintendent, told the council inspection of signalized intersections found about 15 signs that are physically missing but required under the Vehicle and Traffic Law; he estimated material costs for replacements at roughly $3,000–$4,000 and reported staff are reviewing locations and sign sizes for visibility.
"So there's about 15 of them," Gross said while describing potential sites and his plan to measure existing intersections; council members asked whether adding 'No Turn on Red' restrictions downtown could create traffic queues and Gross said he and the police chief will evaluate each intersection. Gross also updated the council on winter-parking complaints and described working with the city's parking software vendor to enable zone-based phone notifications to permit holders about temporary parking rules and winter enforcement.
Councilmembers asked staff to prioritize replacing missing signs in the uptown/downtown area and to return with a plan for standardizing sign placement and the costs of a larger sign rollout.
