Wellness foundation reports growth in school mental-health services and senior hot-meals

Tammy Verhus, interim executive director of the Rainier Foothills Wellness Foundation, updated the Eden Plus City Council on two programs the foundation runs in partnership with local schools and senior services. "For our mental health, we have served a total of 82 students," Verhus said, adding that 62 of those students attended Enumclaw High School, nine at Enumclaw Middle School and 11 at Thunder Mountain.
Verhus highlighted improved behavioral metrics and a slight rise in average GPA for the cohort. She also described the foundation's senior hot-meals program: "We currently have 66 seniors, 80 plus served year to date... There’s about 400 meals prepared from scratch each week," she said, and thanked volunteers and council support. Verhus said staffing transitions are under way (the previous director stepped down) and invited council or staff to contact the foundation with follow-up questions.
