Neighbor at PUD hearing urges notice and raises traffic, screening and displacement worries

A nearby resident told the New Haven Planning Commission during the July 14 public hearing that she is worried about traffic, safety and being displaced by the Lincoln Crossing PUD.
"I'm a single mother with 3 ... I've lived there 36 years. I love the house. I don't want to be uprooted during my" the resident said, identifying her address as 32 Lincoln Highway West. She described times when traffic blocks her driveway and asked whether any barrier or screening would be required between her property and the proposed development.
Nathan Hooley, director of planning, said the effect on an adjacent home would depend on the actual use proposed next to that property and noted the strip in question is zoned I-2 industrial, where screening requirements can be limited. Hooley said he provided his business card and offered to meet and discuss proposals as they come forward. The resident also asked to be notified before demolition or construction begins; staff confirmed they would follow up with her directly.
The exchange framed part of the commission's discussion about traffic and pedestrian improvements along the corridor; commissioners and staff said a traffic study is likely to be required depending on the final site plan and that the city is coordinating with INDOT on corridor improvements.
