During public comment, Mayor Leigh Anne Young read a letter from resident Julie Van Leuven describing an intrusive LED streetlight at 338 Buchanan Loop. Van Leuven "expressed concerns about the intensity of the LED lighting, which shines directly into her home at night and has become increasingly disruptive," and asked the Board for assistance, preferring removal if feasible and otherwise requesting a site inspection or alternatives.
Residents Phyllis Jarvinen and Tonya Basse spoke in support of Van Leuven's request. Mayor Young noted that Duke Energy advised options such as reduced wattage, a directional shield, or removal could be considered but that any modification requires a request from the account holder and an engineer site visit. The minutes record the Board heard the comments; the minutes do not record a formal directive to staff or a scheduled follow-up inspection.
