Council approves purchase of ~190 water meters for $57,030; well pump bid under $10,000

Director Glenn Silva presented the Wooder and Curran June report and said Advanced Plumbing has begun phase 2 of the city's lead service line replacement project. He described planning for the South Main sanitary sewer lining and a North Main water main replacement that will occur beneath the new streetscape.
Silva reported a failure of the Well 7 pump at the West Harlem water treatment plant and that the city solicited three bids to begin a Phase 1 repair. "We were able to collect 3 bids, and the low bidder was Municipal Well and Pump," Silva said, noting the low bid was under $10,000 to remove the current pump, perform an alignment test and prepare for a new installation.
Silva also requested council approval to buy about 190 water meters from Midwest Meter for $57,030 to reduce dead meters (which he said fell from nearly 300 last year to about 125 this year). Council approved the purchase by roll call.
The projects Silva described are tied to upcoming streetscape work; staff said bid documents for the North Main water main replacement will be prepared and that certain projects must be completed before the 200 block streetscape begins.
