Zoning director reports permits, unsafe-structure notices and active redevelopment projects

Director Clark presented the building and zoning July report and said the zoning department continues to issue permits, complete rental and solar inspections, and send notices for mowing, junk and debris and unsafe structures.
"We did send out 5 unsafe notices, 3 for demo," Director Clark said, adding that two property owners had responded and were making repairs. He listed several active projects including renovation of the third floor at the Buchanan Center for the Arts (including an elevator), a business renovation at 113 West 1st Avenue, a new Midwest Pet Foods warehouse, demolition work at a Monmouth College fraternity complex and Jamieson Center rehabilitation projects done in partnership with a local nonprofit.
Council members asked for updated timelines for RP Lumber and for details about the Monmouth College site. Director Clark said he would provide a final timeline the following day and will notify council when he has more information. He also told council the zoning board of appeals hearing on a setback variance was rescheduled from July 8 to Aug. 12 because the board lacked a quorum.
