Alzheimer's Association outlines free local services and launches Peekskill care team

David Zucker, Westchester community engagement manager for the Alzheimer's Association Hudson Valley chapter, told the council and public that the organization's services in Westchester are free and include a 24/7 helpline, educational programs and care consultations. "Everything we do is a 100% free," Zucker said during his presentation, describing caregiver consultations and local social programs intended to reduce isolation.

Zucker cited prevalence figures for New York and the U.S., noted disparities in risk among Black and Hispanic populations and emphasized caregiver resources. He promoted the Walk to End Alzheimer's on Oct. 5, 2025 at Westchester Community College, and encouraged residents to join a local team called "Peakskill Fights for Cure." Volunteers Sudha Ramaswamy and Reverend George Coniglio described a locally launched caregiver support group and asked the council to help publicize the group to increase participation.

The presentation included a request for continued municipal support for outreach; Zucker said the association relies on local funding and volunteer engagement to operate programs and urged residents to call the helpline or visit alz.org for science-based resources.

Council thanked the presenters and noted staff would follow up on opportunities for local promotion and partnership.
