Engineering budget trimmed $212,261; council told a GIS analyst position will be added

City staff presented an engineering budget that the director said trims $212,261 while maintaining a total of 16 positions and adding one GIS analyst.
"Overall, we did a reduction of $212,261," said Christie Lobata. She told the council the department will remain at 16 employees with one vacancy and that a new GIS analyst position will be backfilled after the department chose to restore it. Lobata said most non-personnel cuts (supplies, services and charges) will be absorbed elsewhere in public works and that only contractual personnel and software items remain in the engineering budget.
Councilors asked about miscellaneous revenue and were told it included FEMA reimbursement for a staff salary; a follow-up question was scheduled if members wanted more detail in later budget documents.
