Harvey County's finance director presented sales- and use-tax figures at the Aug. 5 meeting that show short-term month-to-month weakness but modest year-to-date gains. "Sales tax collections are down about 4.4% for the month to date totals but are still up about 2.5% for the year to date totals compared to the same period last year," Shannon Kingsley told the board while reviewing spreadsheets in the meeting packet.
The board used the financial briefing as part of routine monitoring for budgeting and cash-flow planning. Commissioners voted to approve a batch of warrant checks dated Aug. 8, 2025, in the amount of $1,125,756.28. Terry Scott moved to approve the warrants and Becky Reimer seconded; the motion passed unanimously.
The meeting packet included detailed monthly tables and year-to-date totals for second-cent and compensating use taxes showing percentage changes by month and year. County staff noted that while the monthly figure reflected a short-term decline, the year-to-date figures remained slightly positive compared with the prior year, and staff will continue to monitor collections as the budget process continues.
