Harvey County declares 14‑day local disaster after Fox Ridge gas release

The Harvey County Board of Commissioners voted Aug. 26 to adopt a Proclamation of a State of Local Disaster Emergency following an underground natural gas release discovered over the weekend in the Fox Ridge development. Lee Miller, Emergency Management Assistant Director, told the board "no injuries or property damage have been reported," and said construction activities near the site have been suspended while crews monitor conditions.
Miller told commissioners that the Kansas Division of Emergency Management requires a local disaster declaration to unlock state resources; the proclamation will remain in effect for 14 days unless terminated earlier or renewed by the commission. The motion to approve the proclamation passed unanimously.
