Public commenters press board on school safety and criticize state funding

Dan Becca and Randy Peters urged the board to consider the 3DResponse system as a way to improve on-campus safety. Peters said the district should "at least look at this system and adapt at least most of it or all of it" to better protect students inside schools. Derek Curless urged the board to adopt the ICRA insurance recommendations, saying the DEAN benchmark plan did not cover his family's providers and medications and that without the recommended changes his family would face "a significant financial burden."
In response to the broader funding discussion, board member Jeff argued the board has advocated for state support and said, "We've contacted our legislators. We have sued our legislators." Public comments also included appeals both for and against placing a referendum before voters.
