A community volunteer told the board she has documented frequent, aggressive immigration-enforcement activity near Park Center and urged district leaders to meet with volunteers and legal advisers to discuss steps to protect immigrant students and staff.
"Park Center is a huge target for ICE," said Jill Budzinski, who described watching increased raids and alleged tactics she said include impersonating church authorities, staging fake emergencies and using force. Budzinski described observers being tased, pepper-sprayed and having car windows broken while documenting raids, and said volunteers are reporting findings to the ACLU and authorities.
Budzinski asked the board to meet with community volunteers to discuss "legal ways" the district can protect students without taking on additional liability. The board thanked her for the information; staff did not announce immediate policy changes but acknowledged the concern and the offer to collaborate with community organizations and legal observers.
