Board discusses school safety measures, cyber grant award and referendum planning

Superintendent Seykora told the board that school safety is a district priority and that ALICE trainings are being implemented. The School Resource Officer, Josh Oswald, is on school grounds before and after school to increase presence during arrival and dismissal times. "The district was recently awarded a $50,000.00 grant for cyber security," the record states, and administration submitted an additional $250,000 grant application over the summer; the announcement on that request was expected the first week of October.
Facilities Manager Dustin Wroolie and Superintendent Seykora reported they met with representatives from ICS to discuss options for another referendum. Board members scheduled a follow-up with Jason Splett and Lori Christenson from ICS at the Oct. 20 work session to detail how the board wants to proceed. Vice-Chair McGee also reported a pre-meeting listening session with parents who raised building safety and security concerns; the board will address those concerns at the October work session.
