Council hears planing-level push to increase water redundancy, including a possible second tower

Council discussed longer-term system redundancy after staff said the city's legal water volume is 750,000 gallons and the state reviewer suggested a target of 1,500,000 gallons. Staff said that while that recommendation is currently advisory, it could become a stronger requirement in several years and may necessitate property acquisition and piping work.
Staff said a full inspection and takedown for the water tower is due in 2027 and that the city will bring a roughly $5,200 engineering contract to the next meeting to begin that process. "We're gonna be bringing actually, I believe, next meeting a contract for the engineering for because it's at $5,200," the city manager said. The council did not make any immediate capital commitments but flagged the tower inspection and potential redundancy investments for future budgeting.
