Board recognizes Eagle Scout for new Pinetree School garden

Alex Zander MacDonald presented his Eagle Scout service project to the Sulphur Springs Union School District Governing Board, describing a 1,600 sq. ft. transformation of an outdoor area at Pinetree Community School into a garden center with eight planter boxes (one per grade), irrigation and walkways completed with volunteer labor over three days. The Board and district staff commended his leadership and presented him with a Certificate of Appreciation and a Sulphur Springs Union School District lapel pin.
Trustees and staff highlighted the project's instructional benefits, saying it will support academic enrichment, responsibility and hands-on learning for elementary students. Superintendent Dr. Catherine Kawaguchi and Trustee Denis DeFigueiredo praised both the scope of planning and the community partnerships that enabled hundreds of volunteer hours to finish before the school year began.
