Resident praises relicensing of Junction Falls hydro and electricity benefits

At the start of public comment, resident William Hanson addressed the commission to highlight the condition and benefits of the Junction Falls hydroelectric facility. Hanson said the facility had been relicensed by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and that the city could continue producing renewable electricity there for decades.
"Our Junction Falls hydro has been relicensed, by the FERC, and we we can, if we choose to, continue to make renewable electricity here for 40 more years," Hanson said. He added that the dam is inspected annually and that staff project at least 60 more years of useful life, that the facility runs 24/7 and helps reduce electric costs for roughly 8,000 electric utility customers, and that the hydro controls are local and manual.
The commission thanked Hanson for his remarks; no formal action resulted from the comment.
