Timothy Brooks, a resident of Gray Road, used the public-comment period to ask the Pickens County Board of Commissioners to contact state authorities and request an investigation into what he described as civil-rights violations by county tax assessors, board of equalization members and the district attorney or grand jury. He said he brought documents and legal citations supporting his charges and asked the commissioners to review them.
"To the elected county commissioners, Pickens County, Georgia, I make the following motion that the county commissioners contact the appropriate state authorities to request that they investigate the charges I have made against the Pickens County tax assessors, board of equalization members, and the district attorney or grand jury, and correct their actions in the appropriate manner," Brooks said. The chair offered that Brooks could drop off the materials and staff would follow up; no formal board motion or vote was recorded on that request during the meeting.
