Board approves filing of tentative tax-levy resolution after levy preview

The Carbondale Elementary School District No. 95 board voted to file a tentative tax-levy resolution for the 2025 tax year on Nov. 13. Tangela Oliver moved to approve the resolution, Dr. Renada Greer seconded, and the motion carried on a unanimous roll-call vote of present members.
Chief School Business Official Janiece Blake told the board the district—s levy increase "is set at 4.99% over the previous year—s extension" but noted Jackson County is tax-capped and the district will receive the lesser of 5% or the CPI increase. Blake added that the CPI used for this levy year is 2.90% and that the tentative levy figures are estimates based on county-assessed valuation data. "The tentative levy is what I like to call the best educated guess," she said.
Why it matters: the tentative levy sets the maximum the district seeks to collect in property-tax extension and begins a 30-day public-notice period and a required public hearing before final adoption. The board scheduled a public hearing and final action on the levy for Dec. 18, 2025. The board did not change the tentative percentage at the Nov. 13 meeting; members voted to file the resolution as presented.
The motion to file the tentative levy was recorded as: mover Tangela Oliver; seconder Renada Greer. Roll-call yes votes: Catherine Field, Renada Greer, Imani McHenry, Marshall Hunt, John Major, Tangela Oliver. Absent: Cawthon.
