Christina Buscko, MS, LPCC, and Katie Schultz, LICSW, LADC, MSW, presented the Wayzata Public Schools Well-Being Advisor Program at the board work session, describing services available to district staff and their household members age 16 and older.
The presenters said the program has been part of the district for about five years and has expanded services from trainings and limited sessions in its first year to a regular schedule that averaged 113 sessions per month by the end of the last school year. Services listed included individual, couple and family mental health therapy prioritized for staff, tailored training programs, and rotating group support targeted to school teams.
Buscko and Schultz emphasized access and flexibility as program goals, noting the program aims to minimize obstacles such as insurance and waitlists and to provide targeted coaching and training across schools. The presentation included contact information for the program (advisors@wpswellbeing.com) and a public-facing site (https://wpswellbeing.my.canva.site/).
The presenters also cited national figures to explain the program's rationale: they cited an EdCan Network finding that "58 percent of K-12 teachers are stressed 'all the time' compared with 36 percent of [the] overall Canadian workforce," and used that context to justify maintaining and expanding supports for staff mental health.
