The Board considered and approved updates to two student-focused policies and associated administrative rules.
Denise Wright, director of student services, reviewed proposed language changes to JFE (Pregnant and Parenting Students) and to JHCD/JHCDA (Medications), noting those changes incorporate legislative updates and MESD-recommended language. The Board discussed the distinction between the terms "caregiver" and "guardian," and Director Claudia Andrews moved to approve the JFE policy with the change from "caregiver" to "guardian." Vice Chair Pam Shields seconded and the motion was approved unanimously.
Director Wright then reviewed changes to the medication policy and the administrative rules; Director David Linn moved to approve JHCD/JHCDA and Director William Mohring seconded. For the administrative rules (ARs) tied to medications, Director Andrews moved to approve the ARs as presented and Director Linn seconded; the motions passed unanimously. The minutes note staff recommended keeping bracketed language and additional MESD wording shown in the materials.
The approvals were recorded as first reads with the option to adopt and the Board did not record further substantive edits in the minutes. Staff will implement policy language changes and update administrative guidance as required by new law and MESD practices.
