The Centennial School District 28J Governing Board received a presentation about a newly formed Equity Advisory Committee at its Jan. 8 meeting. Assistant Superintendent Dr. Tasha Katsuda described the committee’s purpose and statutory responsibilities and said the committee will advise the superintendent and the board, address school-specific equity issues, and support district leadership.
Dr. Katsuda noted that "the School Board, in consultation with the committee, is required to appoint at least one committee member to serve on the School District Budget Committee when a vacancy exists," and Denise Wright, director of student services, presented a detailed timeline for planning, application and selection, orientation and ongoing implementation. Board members asked clarifying questions about membership, outreach and how the committee will interact with school and district leadership.
The administration will continue recruitment and selection steps per the timeline presented; the board can expect follow-up reports and a request to formally appoint committee members when applications and selections are complete.
