Brookings-Harbor board appoints OSBA rep, votes on three OSBA resolutions

At its Nov. 20 meeting the Brookings-Harbor School District board handled Oregon School Boards Association (OSBA) election business and three proposed resolutions. Trish Walker moved that the board vote for Jacqueline Crook as OSBA Board representative for South Coast/Douglas Region 9; Katherine Johnson seconded and the board voted 5-0 in favor (Trish Walker, Katherine Johnson, Janece Payne, Alan Nidiffer, Jay Trost voted Aye).
The board then addressed three OSBA resolutions. Janece Payne moved that the district vote "no" on Resolution No. 1 (which would amend the OSBA dues schedule); Katherine Johnson seconded and the motion to oppose Resolution No. 1 passed 5-0. On Resolution No. 2 (to create an OSBA PRIDE Caucus-seat and designate a seat on the OSBA Board of Directors and Legislative Policy Committee), Katherine Johnson moved to vote "no" citing concern that "they want OSBA to pay for the members of those caucuses to attend the school board conferences" and saying it "may be wise for us to hold off until there is more clarity"; Trish Walker seconded and the motion to oppose passed 5-0. The board voted 5-0 to support Resolution No. 3 (proposed OSBA bylaws amendments) after trustees described it as improving transparency and accountability.
