Board approves tougher Honors Diploma requirements for current sophomores

The Cascade High School administration proposed and the board approved changes to the district's Honors Diploma requirements on Sept. 9. Social Studies Teacher Dave Schletty told trustees the Honors Diploma is a district-created program and recommended increasing rigor by requiring students to complete at least seven full-credit advanced courses, take at least four AP exams, and maintain a 3.5 GPA; the change will apply to the current sophomore class.
High School Principal Pete Rasmussen said the change aims to raise expectations and that the school may expand tutoring and other supports to help students meet the new standards. The motion to approve the changes passed unanimously.
