Cascade SD #5 reports enrollment dip, highlights nearly $10M in seismic upgrades

Superintendent Darin Drill told the board the district has seen a decline in student enrollment for the first time in six to seven years and that the district has fiscally planned for a smaller student population this year. He said the decrease partly reflects a smaller kindergarten class statewide and pledged to keep the board advised if trends become concerning.
Drill also reported capital work completed over recent years, saying "close to $10 million in seismic upgrades performed Districtwide over the last 7-8 years." Finance Director Mr. Pillar told trustees the district is in "safe harbor" for State School Fund calculations (the state will pay based on the higher of the prior two years if enrollment drops) and described a potential seismic grant application with an expected award in April 2025 and a two-year completion window if successful. Pillar said facility engineers and the state determine fund allocation and that staff will prepare long-range facility plans and more detailed reports for trustees.
