Seniors, classmates showcase career-focused activities at Academic Excellence Day

Superintendent Helena Chirinian introduced a Student Spotlight featuring senior Lily Sandefur and freshman Hillah Ghafoori who described the district’s Academic Excellence Day on Oct. 16. Lily said the senior rotations focused on future planning and included CPR training, financial literacy, broadcasting and forestry with school, college and community representatives.
Hillah described hands-on learning experiences tied to a field trip to Southwestern Oregon Community College — Curry Campus: “...we did wildland firefighting, nursing activities, and operating heavy equipment simulators,” she said. Board Member Alan Nidiffer, who presented in the financial literacy section, added, “I thought it was a great day …in every case each group of kids had great questions.”
