Superintendent Darin Drill opened the reports portion of the Aug. 12 meeting with updates on summer projects and staffing needs for the 2024–25 school year, saying the district will hire long-term substitutes to cover multiple planned staff leaves. He described two work groups formed at a recent administrative retreat to study student cell phone use and dress code, which will report back during the school year.
"One of the hot topics was AI and how that may affect education and our students," Drill told the board, noting that the Westside Education Service District (WESD) plans to convene a team to review AI’s implications for instruction and student work. He also announced a donation from Elam Farms: a large retractable flag that will be installed in the Cascade High School gym. The district will incorporate the retreat work-group reviews into its policy calendar this year.
