Mrs. Heidi Lasher said the committee met twice and focused on reviewing state laws and board policies, defining key terms such as "age-appropriate" and "medically accurate," and improving the accessibility of parent opt-out procedures. The committee created a sandbox website for materials and made opt-out forms available in multiple languages and in either paper or electronic format. Lasher told the board that opt-outs must be submitted annually because lessons change grade to grade, and that students who opt out are provided alternative work and supervised locations such as the library.
The board approved the updated plan (MOTION 120) on a 4-0 vote. The minutes do not include the full scope-and-sequence details but note that the committee reviewed OARs and ORS and examined elementary, middle and high school sequences.
