The Corvallis School District 509J Board of Directors voted unanimously (Yea: 5, Nay: 0, Absent: 1) to uphold a student appeal in part following an executive session on Oct. 10, 2024. Director Judah Largent moved the action, which Director Chris Hawkins seconded; the motion instructed district administration to offer the student an opportunity to retake the chemistry and language arts classes from the 2023–2024 school year in their entirety, and an alternative format if available.
The board also directed the administration to develop a policy proposal addressing the district's use and governance of artificial intelligence and to review disciplinary and bullying‑harassment policies with specific attention to racial equity. The board upheld the remaining findings from the matter except for one finding related to adherence to bias‑reporting procedures. Superintendent Ryan Noss was in attendance and will be responsible for carrying out the board's directions and returning proposals to the board as required.
