Board approves first reading of Title IX policy and updates to dozens of policies

The Yellow Medicine East board approved the first reading of Policy 522, Title IX Sex Nondiscrimination, on Oct. 14. The motion to approve the first reading was made by Amanda Lecy, seconded by Laurel Christianson, and carried.
In the same session the board approved updates to multiple policies including Policy 102 (Equal Educational Opportunity), Policy 104 (School District Mission Statement), Policy 204 (School Board Meeting Minutes), Policy 207 (Public Hearings), Policy 413 (Harassment & Violence), Policy 416 (Drug, Alcohol, Cannabis Testing), Policy 418 (Drug-Free Workplace/School), Policy 419 (Tobacco-Free Environment), Policy 425 (Staff Development & Mentoring), Policy 503 (Student Attendance), Policy 506 (Student Discipline), Policy 507 (Corporal Punishment & Prone Restraint), and Policy 509 (Enrollment of Nonresident Students). Board members voted to carry the motion as presented.
