Jackson County audit returns clean opinion; auditors report no findings

Clark Schafer Hackett presented Jackson County's financial-audit package covering January 1, 2025 through December 31, 2025 (pension figures use 12/31/2024). The auditors told the board they issued three required reports — financial statements, a government-auditing-standards internal-control report and a uniform-guidance federal-grants report — and returned an unmodified, clean opinion with no findings or material weaknesses.
"All reports were clean opinion, that is the highest opinion you can get," the auditor said while outlining the reporting scope and clarifying that pension numbers use a different year-end for accounting standards. The auditors highlighted a strengthening net position driven by capital grants and strong operating-grant revenues, noted significant investments in roads and airport infrastructure, and described pension and transfer activity that affected the general fund balance.
Commissioners asked for supplemental historical data, including delinquent-tax trends prior to 2021; auditors agreed to provide the requested detail by email. The board voted to receive the audit, with the clerk calling roll when the electronic voting system experienced issues.
