The Ontario School District 8C Board of Directors voted unanimously June 30 to approve the district's 2023-24 financial audit after administrators reported two auditor findings and a corrective plan.
Director of Finance Devin Collins told the board that "the auditors did have some findings," including a late financial summary tied to mismatched ending and beginning balances caused by invoice date defaults, and an entry from a federal fund that "should have been an expense but turned into an indirect." Collins said a plan of action has been submitted to the auditors to address both issues and indicated the district will use different auditors going forward.
Vice-Chair Mike Blackaby asked when prior audits were received; Collins answered that the 2021-22 audit was received in September 2024, the 2022-23 audit in October 2024, and the 2023-24 audit in June 2025. The board placed the audit approval on the consent/approval portion of the agenda; Director Matt Stringer moved to approve, Director Blanca Rodriguez seconded, and the motion passed with Uptmor, Blackaby, Rodriguez and Stringer voting yes.
The board did not identify any immediate policy or personnel actions at the meeting tied to the audit findings; Collins's submitted corrective plan will be the district's next documentary step, and the board said it expects updates as corrections are implemented.
