During public comment, Kirstin Wheeler representing the Oregon Education Association proposed an award to honor exemplary teachers from Ontario School District history and said she is organizing a community forum to gather input. Wheeler recounted a personal example about a teacher who inspired her career and invited community members to suggest names, saying, "I am working on a forum to push out into the community to get feedback on who they would feel deserves an award named after them."
Wheeler asked the district to collaborate on the effort and invited anyone who already has a suggested name to contact her. The board did not take formal action on the proposal during the meeting; Wheeler indicated an interest in working with district staff on next steps.
