Board approves grants, accepts donations and signs off on certified staff changes

The Milton-Freewater Unified SD 7 board on May 12 accepted two grants—an Oregon Department of Education Early Literacy grant for $25,525 and a $5,000 award from the Milton-Freewater Area Foundation for FFA—and approved several donations and personnel actions as part of agenda items.
Superintendent Aaron Duff listed donations included on the consent agenda: Umapine Creamery ($1,000 for Mac-Hi FFA and $250 for Mac-Hi FBLA), Mark Mizer/MGM Mechanical ($500 for Mac-Hi ASB) and Walla Walla Nursery (about $200 for Mother’s Day flowers for Gib Olinger students). The consent agenda (including donations, financial reports and minutes) was approved on a motion by Don Miller with a second from Kelly Kessler.
On personnel matters the board approved certified staff resignations for Scott Sumner (Instrumental Music Teacher), Ashton Montgomery (RTI Elementary Teacher, Gib Olinger) and Connie Werner (Elementary PE Teacher, Gib Olinger); Kathy Silva moved to approve and Mary Gutierrez seconded. The board also approved two new certified hires—Thomas Tangney and Shawna Yeager as PE teachers at Gib Olinger—on a motion by Claudia Limon.
