The Royse City Independent School District Board of Trustees voted unanimously to approve an amendment to the Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) for Worthy Fate High School after administrators and contractors explained the financial and logistical reasons for a one-year extension of part of the work.
Byron, the district finance lead, said the change reflects a decision to reprioritize projects to protect cash flow after recent shifts in bond capacity: "At that time, we decided to prioritize Worthy Fate," he said, explaining that extending some work avoids interrupting the essential instructional areas required to open. Contractor Jack Reen explained that pushing about $43 million of work into a later year increases carry costs (temporary power, trailers, erosion control) and includes roughly 1.7% in contingency to address potential material-price increases; any unused contingency will be credited back at closeout.
Board members acknowledged the tradeoffs between schedule, cost and campus safety for an occupied site. The motion to amend the GMP passed on a voice vote with a 6–0 tally.
