Richardson ISD to replace multiple platforms with ParentSquare; rollout in summer and fall

Richardson ISD will consolidate several communications tools into ParentSquare and begin a phased rollout ahead of the 2026–27 school year, district communications leaders told the board May 14.
Dr. Heller said ParentSquare will replace the district's Finalsite/Blackboard mass-notification system and TalkingPoints two-way texting, and will handle email, text and app notifications in one unified platform. The district reported a 96% contactability rate for parents under current tools and said ParentSquare's consolidated features and nightly SIS sync should improve reach and reduce "app fatigue." "This will be effective for the 2627 school year," Dr. Heller said.
The district will pilot ParentSquare during summer school, train principals and assistant principals later in the month, then provide teacher trainings during pre‑service sessions. The district said ParentSquare supports translation into multiple languages, offers newsletter templates to replace Smore, and can maintain separate community groups and parent-specific safety-alert lists. The purchase is funded through bond enterprise software dollars; staff said the transition will be cost‑neutral when consolidated license savings are considered.
Trustees asked about translation accuracy and community subscriptions; Dr. Heller said the district will use internal translation services for critical messages and will work with ParentSquare on engine improvements.
