Second-grade demo at Richardson ISD highlights 'productive' screen time uses

At the Richardson ISD board work session, an instructional-technology specialist led trustees through a second-grade activity to show how devices can produce assessable student artifacts.
Kelsey Ord guided board members through a hands-on exercise in which participants rolled dice to make three-digit numbers, photographed their arrangements into a Keynote slide, annotated the slide with a Logitech crayon and recorded themselves reading the number. Ord noted that teachers can later export the keynote, upload to Seesaw and listen to the recorded audio as evidence of student fluency.
District staff showed how Apple Classroom lets teachers view student screens in real time, lock student devices into a single app and launch content. Presenters said these tools help teachers collect individualized evidence they can use for reteach decisions and to share learning with families via Seesaw at Home.
