Staff and community urge the Pendleton school board to address student behavior and school safety
Summary
An OSEA representative and three visitors told the board they were concerned about student behavior and classroom safety at Sherwood Elementary and McKay 4th grade; the board added behavior and staffing to the next work session and a director requested a plan or resolution on safety.
Tammy Hillmick, representing the Oregon School Employees Association, told the board she continued to have concerns carried over from last year about student behavior at Sherwood Elementary and asked the board for support addressing persistent behavior incidents and staffing challenges.
Three visitors—Shaina Bosworth-Cain, Kristy Palm and Jackie Garton—addressed the board about safety concerns affecting McKay 4th grade students. The board directed that behavior and staffing be added to a future work session agenda; Director Ryan Lehnert said he "wants to talk about a plan and resolution for teachers and students to be safe in our schools."
