District highlights CNA pathway and partnerships that let students earn credentials at no cost

Armbruster said roughly 10–11 students completed a Certified Nurse Associate course via a partnership of JBS instructors, Lorain County Community (LCC) facilities and O'Neil Healthcare clinicals; two students initially failed the board exam but later passed, and the district paid very little of the cost.
During the presentation on career pathways, Lee Armbruster described a new local partnership that allowed high school students to earn a Certified Nurse Associate credential at little or no cost.
"We had 10 students that all enrolled and participated, 1 from MidView, so that made it 11... So every 1 of our students became a CNA," Armbruster told the board, while noting two students did not pass the board on the first attempt and returned to successfully complete it.
Armbruster said JBS teachers taught the class, Lorain County Community (LCC) provided the facility and O'Neil Healthcare handled clinicals. She called the collaboration a model for future credentials and said the district used available JBS funding to minimize costs to students and the district.
Board members asked for clarification about where the credential fits in the nursing pathway; Armbruster explained the CNA/Certified Nurse Associate is an initial step required by nursing programs that can lead to LPN or further nursing education.
