At its Sept. 11 work session, the Reynolds School District Board of Education discussed an assessment crosswalk and revised board goals for academic achievement. Chair Michael Reyes called the meeting to order at 6:02 p.m.; the board heard the assessment presentation and a question-and-answer session focused on how the district is setting baselines and interim targets.
A staff member described the 5th‑grade math baseline as a '490,' explaining, 'The 490 is the equivalent of the 49th percentile. We want students to be above the 490.' Staff emphasized that i‑Ready was used to set the new baseline and that this was the first year the district used i‑Ready, so 'the baseline may be artificially low.' The board discussed keeping smaller percentage gains in later years because progress is harder at higher performance levels.
The staff presentation also clarified testing plans across grades: STAR testing will continue to be used for 8th‑grade math, while K–5 used STAR‑Reading and Acadience last year alongside STAR‑math and i‑Ready. Board members asked for the revised goals to be more visible to the public and for the Spanish version of the goals presentation to be updated.
The work session adjourned at 7:00 p.m.
