Ontario SD 8C reports steady improvement for English learners

Anabel Ortiz-Chavolla, director of federal programs, presented Ontario School District 8C’s final English-language learner report from the Oregon Department of Education for the 2023–24 school year, saying the district’s data “matches patterns throughout the State of Oregon” and shows improvement. The report broke students into current, former and monitored ELL categories and noted a separate “never” category for students who have never been in the program.
Ortiz-Chavolla told the Board that students enrolled in online coursework are offered the same ELL supports as other students: “students doing online coursework will have the same services, just like any other student.” Board members did not ask follow-up questions during the presentation. The report was presented as part of the consent agenda and will be available with district materials if parents or community members request more detailed breakdowns.
