County approves low-income septic loan for household with failing system

Planning staff presented an application from Michael Korbo for the county's low-income septic fix-up program, saying the existing system (updated in 2013) is now functionally failing and the household includes 13 people. Staff described a proposed upgrade sized for six bedrooms (1,200 gallons per day) and said Sandhill Septic and Excavation was the low bidder at $18,000.
Under the recommended financing, the county would apply a $1,500 grant from program funds and provide a $10,500 loan amortized over 10 years, collected on property tax statements at a nominal interest rate. "We have done at least 20 loans in the last 12 years, and we haven't had any of them that have defaulted," staff said in support. Commissioners voted to approve the loan.
