Milton-Freewater Unified SD 7's board voted to adopt a new social studies curriculum for grades 4–12 following presentations by district teachers and administrators.
Teachers and curriculum leads described pilot use of TCI/My World Interactive for elementary grades and the district's chosen U.S. and government texts for secondary classes. Christine Brown, the board's vice principal who introduced the team, said the elementary event drew strong community engagement: "we had 26 community partners, well over 650 people come through the doors." Presenters emphasized that the digital platform offers adjustable reading levels and Spanish translations to support bilingual students, while consumable workbooks let students write and take materials home.
Board members probed durability and alignment concerns, asking how long consumables last and whether K–12 materials connect coherently. Presenters said consumables are intended for daily student use and that the platform provides printable materials for classrooms without reliable power. Administration recommended adoption after the Q&A; a motion to adopt was moved, seconded and approved by voice vote.
The board's action approves the district's recommended materials for implementation; administration said pricing is negotiated through a state contract vendor and final purchasing details will be finalized through Northwest Textbook procurement.
