Royse City ISD to replace cafeteria serving lines to reduce lunch bottlenecks

District nutrition and operations staff told the board they will replace aging serving lines at the high school to increase throughput and minimize congestion.
"This took 2.5 years of planning," Dr. Solis said, describing how the new serving lines, additional coolers/freezers and a fifth mobile serving line will allow both two entrances/exits and checkout at the end of each line. He said the change will add capacity and improve flow so students do not bottleneck in the food court.
Dr. Solis emphasized the project will be paid from school nutrition funds, not the general fund, and that the reconfiguration could allow roughly 350 more students to move efficiently through a lunch wave. The board praised cafeteria staff and noted the operational gains—shorter lines, more a la carte stations, and improved entry/exit flow—are meant to recover instructional minutes and improve the student experience.
Staff said implementation details and timing will come back to the board as procurement and installation are finalized.
