Royse City ISD's athletics leader described how a phased build that delayed indoor athletic facilities and some fields would affect teams, scheduling and student opportunities.
The athletics representative warned that without the planned indoor spaces "you'd lose some enrollment" tied to sport and academy offerings and outlined operational problems: limited field access, conflicts with PE and fine-arts usage, the need for temporary locker rooms or a temporary weight room and increased transportation. He said prior rule changes that allow workouts outside the athletic day increase indoor-space demand and complicate scheduling when facilities are limited.
Trustees and staff discussed possible mitigations such as staggered schedules, temporary facilities and sharing fields with Royce City High School; they also raised concerns about equity of experience and the liability and logistical burden of busing students for practices and events. The board asked staff to include athletic scheduling and enrollment implications in the scenario-cost comparisons.
