Board approves drainage easement for Bear Pen development near Shaw Road

The Royse City ISD board approved a drainage easement requested by developers for the Bear Pen subdivision, a motion that passed unanimously.
Jason Landrip presented the request, saying the developers are "requesting a roughly 28, thousand square foot easement right near the bridge where it crosses." He described coordination with the city and ongoing floodplain evaluations with FEMA and said the easement will help alleviate local flooding concerns. Landrip told the board the easement area is not likely to be developed for district use and that, over time, ownership is expected to transfer to the city as part of roadway and drainage improvements.
Board members asked about historical involvement of the Army Corps of Engineers and whether additional federal review would be required; Landrip said current studies are running through FEMA and the city and that he had not been informed the Army Corps would be involved in this step. The board made a motion to approve the easement and the vote was recorded as "That passes 6 0."
