Commission weighs sidewalk termination, escrow and bus-stop safety for Peck Road subdivision

Chris Daley of Howell Engineering said the sidewalk "terminated the sidewalk probably, I'd say, about 10, 15 feet away from Deck Road," and explained the location was chosen because a guide rail and a reconstructed culvert limit where a sidewalk can safely connect across Peck Road.
Staff and applicants discussed alternatives including placing money in escrow or using a fee in lieu so that when a crossing or sidewalk connection is later feasible the township could extend the path. One commissioner emphasized the need to ensure children have a safe place to wait for the bus and raised concern that a sidewalk that terminated too far from Peck Road could force pedestrians into the roadway.
Commissioners also noted the absence of sidewalks along much of Peck Road and said the township's active-transportation planning work could affect where future connections make sense. The commission did not force a sidewalk across Peck Road at this meeting but asked for cost estimates and clarified whether escrow or a fee-in-lieu would be appropriate.
