Parent-Teacher Advisory Committee forms to connect families with resources

Imani McHenry, who represents the Parent-Teacher Advisory Committee, outlined PTAC's mission and early work since the committee's first meeting on Oct. 16 at the John Major Learning Center.
"Our mission is to give families a real voice by reviewing what’s happening across the district, offering feedback, and helping build stronger connections between home and school," McHenry said. She summarized committee discussions that tied the Community Schools Grant to the district Strategic Plan and school improvement plans, and described possible steps to make requesting help more private and straightforward, such as through Infinite Campus or a Community Schools website.
McHenry said PTAC plans quarterly family check-ins and recommended inviting PTO representatives to future meetings to broaden family representation. The board received the report during committee reports and did not take formal action at the meeting.
